Batavia Downs Gaming on Thursday unveiled a $12 million transformation of the racetrack at a grand opening with additional slot machines and three new restaurants.

The harness racing track increased its video lottery terminals to about 800, moved them from the second to the first floor.

Fortuna’s, an Italian-style restaurant, 34 Rush sports bar named for football great Thurman Thomas, and the trackside Homestretch Grille and an existing Tim Hortons are open. The renovations included a new and larger smoking room with its own slots.

There will be a number of cash giveaways for the occasion. The gambling attraction is open virtually around the-clock, from 8 a.m. to 4 a.m. Its four nights a week of racing is also in progress. Western Regional Off-Track Betting Corp. owns the facility.
