NY Sports Day
Yonkers Raceway’s leading harness drivers are big winners off the track, too. Nine sulky stars who have tallied over 44,000 career victories and more than $500 million in lifetime purse earnings – Brian Sears, Jason Bartlett, Jordan Stratton, Larry Stalbaum, Mark McDonald, Brent Holland, Pat LaChance, Daniel Dube and Eric Carlson – will spearhead the contingent of Empire City Casino/Yonkers Raceway employees and Standardbred Owners Association of New York horsemen to assist the hungry. On Thursday, the volunteers will visit the Food Bank for Westchester in Elmsford (200 Clearbrook Road) from 1:00-3:00 PM. It will be the third consecutive year that dozens will gather at the Food Bank’s warehouse to volunteer to help those in need throughout America.
The Food Bank’s staff will first host a tour of the facility, and then put their very eager visitors to work packaging food to be distributed countywide. The Raceway and its horsemen have also pledged to make a donation to the Food Bank. For more information, contact the Food Bank (914-923-1100), or visit them on-line at www.foodbankforwestchester.org.
“Helping such a worthwhile cause as the Food Bank has now become an annual tradition,” said Empire City Vice President and COO Bob Galterio. “When our employees and horsemen volunteer their time makes it makes it very special.”
“We’re again delighted to be able to help the Food Bank of Westchester,” said Joe Faraldo, President, SOA of New York. “We appreciate the efforts of our horsemen, the SOA staff and Yonkers Raceway management and employees. These efforts address the most basic of human needs, to be free of hunger.”
