The Wave
More than 20 non-profit organizations are hosting a mammoth job fair as part of an effort to help people find work in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
The “Post Sandy Job Fair” will be held on Tuesday, May 14th, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Resorts World Casino at Aqueduct Raceway, at 110-00 Rockaway Boulevard, Ozone Park.
Potential employers are encouraged to contact job fair organizers through the organization’s web site at: http://www.postsandyjobfair.org/.
All job seekers are welcome and the event is free.
The organizers expect up to 300 companies from a wide range of sectors to participate, each one having committed to hire at least one candidate. Employers will determine the number of actual jobs that are available. Throughout the day experts will provide workshops and assistance with interviewing skills and resume preparation.
“The idea,” according to a media release by co-sponsor State Senator Joseph Addabbo, “is to create immediate employment opportunities by exposing qualified job seekers to employers with the intent to hire, and to stimulate the employment climate in Greater New York and create accelerated momentum in a recovering economy.”
The event organizers include Goodwill Industries of NY-NJ, GoodTemps, Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr., Better Business Bureau, Human Services Council, LDS Employment Resource Services, ACCES-VR, SUNY – Manhattan Educational Opportunity Center, NYU – Rusk Institute, Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, NYS Department of Labor, CUNY LEADS, Borough of Manhattan Community College, NYC Department of Small Business Services – Workforce1, Per Scholas, Enable Enterprises and Abilities Inc.
