Just last week, Governor Cuomo released his plan to bring full blown casinos to the state.

But as Fox 40 has reported, Tioga Downs Owner Jeff Gural says the $50 million dollar upfront fee is too steep.

Senator Libous says he would like to see Tioga Downs become a gaming casino because he believes it would provide numerous job opportunities. He agrees most operating racino’s wouldn’t be able to afford the $50 million fee and there have been lengthy meetings in Albany every day to find a compromise.

“We need to make a decision and roll ahead. Hopefully we’ll be able to get something that can be a compromise that could be good for the New York State economy,” Libous said. “I think gaming would be a great opportunity. Bus loads leaving New York State and Upstate New York and the Southern TIer on a regular basis going outside the state so we want to keep the money here.”

Libous says ultimately it will be up to the public to decide when they vote on the issue in November.
