The group representing the state’s nine racetrack casinos has a new six-week radio buy debuting this week.

Our Ken Lovett reports:

The new spot, “Typical Day,” is being rolled out as the Legislature is being asked to give final approval to a Constitutional amendment that clears the way for up to seven full-scale casinos in New York. It also comes as Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver says he wants the Legislature to have a role in deciding in where the casinos would be located, as opposed to Gov. Cuomo, who wants the decision made by a new gaming commission.

Operators want to be granted the rights to upgrade to full casinos.

The $350,000 radio ad campaign by the New York Gaming Association pushes the success of the nine current racinos, noting this year they will contribute $1 billion to New York schools. It is the second ad campaign in recent weeks.

The new ad says that’s enough to hire 13,000 teachers across the state while holding the line on property taxes. It also says the racinos employ nearly 6,000 people and thousands more in spinoff jobs.

“Racetrack casinos are a big win for New York schools, and that’s a big win for all of us,” the ad says.

Cuomo has said he doesn’t believe the racinos should be guaranteed upgrades. Instead, he says the market should determine where the new casinos should go.
