Saratoga Casino and Raceway announced that the six local charitable organizations raised nearly $35,000 to support their programs as part of the second annual “Party for a Cause” program this summer.
The program ran six consecutive Thursday nights through the Saratoga meet. The participating organizations included Jake’s Help from Heaven, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County, Saratoga Regional YMCA, NENY Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research and Simplifying Lives, for a Cause.
Admission tickets for each event were pre-sold by the charities for $5, keeping all proceeds. On the night of the events, Saratoga Casino and Raceway matched the $5 for every guest who entered the doors. The total match made by the casino was $3,455 up from just under $3,000 last year.
Fourteen applications were received for 2012 from qualifying 501c3 organizations in the Capital District. The applications are reviewed by designated members of the donation committee at Saratoga Casino and Raceway. Charities selected for the series were provided the use of the Vapor nightclub and its house DJ to host a fundraising event, with no rental fees.
The casino plans to bring the program back for a third run next year.
