Resorts World Casino New York City has begun a month-long celebration of Black History Month with an exhibit featuring photographic work from the archives of the New York Daily News. This retrospective will tell the important story of the incredible impact the African American community has had not only in Queens, but also across New York City and the world. The exhibit, located in its Times Square Casino Atrium, began February 7 and continues through February 28.
“Our Queens community is well known for its impact on African American culture, and we are proud to join in that tradition and provide an exciting and unique experience for guests,” said Resorts World Casino New York City President Michael Speller. “We are thrilled to have embraced the diversity of this community, with 91 percent of our employees being people of color or women, and look forward to helping tell the constantly evolving story of Queens’ ever-changing communities.”
For this celebration, The Times Square Casino Atrium is adorned with photos of several African American sports legends and moments in time that celebrate outstanding achievements by African Americans and highlight the many cultures that make Queens a diverse home for all.
In conjunction with the month-long art exhibit, Resorts World Casino has been featuring one-of-a-kind musical events highlighting the best Queens has to offer. On February 12 Resorts World Casino hosted “Jazz Night”, featuring local musicians celebrating the music of famous Queens residents such as Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie. These nights are co-hosted by the Flushing Town Hall and the Louis Armstrong House Museum.
The festivities will culminate on February 23 in a celebration of Queens’ diverse musical heritage, with the Resort World Gives Community Concert in its Central Park Events Space, co-hosted by Lenny Green and DJ Marky the People Pleaser of WBLS and Jared McCallister of the New York Daily News. The concert will feature homegrown Queens residents celebrating the music that has made Queens the diverse cultural center it is today.
Located at Aqueduct Raceway in Queens, adjacent to JFK International Airport, Resorts World Casino is more easily accessible by public transportation than ever before. In addition to the Q37 bus stop on the property and the A train stop at the North Conduit subway station, Resorts World Casino offers a shuttle to and from the facility for guests arriving from Jamaica Station—ensuring that the casino is just minutes, not hours away.
