New York’s racinos are turning out to be a winning proposition lately.
The nine racetrack casinos owned and operated by the New York Gaming Association brought in about $1.3 billion last fiscal year; an increase of 30 percent over last year.
Lottery officials attribute most of the increase to the Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens which opened in October.
It’s good news for school kids as 47 percent of racetrack casino revenues went toward the state education system.
Governor Andrew Cuomo has pushed to legalize all casino gaming in New York.
The state’s racinos have video slot machines and certain electronic games, but do not have traditional table games like poker and blackjack.
