Vernon Downs Casino recently announced record revenue for the fiscal year ending March 31.

In 2012-13, the casino’s video lottery terminals generated $43.6 million, an increase of 1 percent from the previous year, according to a news release.

“Thanks to the continued support of our patrons and community, we are proud to announce a banner year for Vernon Downs Casino” Principal Owner Jeff Gural said in the release. “But the real winners are the students, taxpayers and farmers who benefit from the revenue we generate.”

More than $15.2 million was generated for education, an increase of 1 percent from the previous year and the highest produced since Vernon Downs Casino opened its gaming floor in 2006.

About $29.2 million was produced for local governments. That included $2.6 million for the city of Oneida, $1.2 million for the town of Vernon and a $1.4 Vernon-Verona Sherrill School District tax, all up 1 percent.

About $4.3 million was generated for the racing industry, also up 1 percent. This funding supports family farms, breeders, feed producers, horsemen, veterinarians and other industry jobs.

“Our robust growth is a testament to the successful public-private partnership Vernon Downs Casino enjoys with the state,” Gural said. “We look forward to another successful year of making a positive contribution to our community.”
