New York gross gaming revenue rose 7 percent during the past year while slot revenues fell in three neighboring states, an industry report says.
Much of the increase is fueled by Resorts World Casino New York at Aqueduct Racetrack, whose revenues jumped 17 percent during the past year.
The casino has generated more than $1 billion in total revenue since opening in October 2011, a pace of roughly $1.8 million per day.
“Especially when compared with our neighboring states, the strength of the New York model is backed by our numbers and our ability to increasingly generate much needed funding for schools, and support for the racing and breeding industries,” said New York Gaming Association President James D. Featherstonhaugh, who is also part owner of Saratoga Casino & Raceway.
The Gaming Association said April slot revenues fell 14 percent in Atlantic City, 7 percent in Connecticut and 4 percent in Pennsylvania. These states collectively saw a decline of 8.6 percent from April 2012 to April 2013.
“Resorts World Casino is not only recapturing New York’s gaming dollars, but also attracting out-of-state dollars due to continued heavy investment in its facilities and marketing programs,” President Michael Speller said. “We are now the single largest casino taxpayer in the country, and if ranked as its own state, Resorts World Casino would be the fourth-largest taxpayer out of 23 states with commercial casinos.”
